Additional information

The Faculty of Agriculture is proud to offer comprehensive research services to interested third parties. At the heart of our research facilities is our farm, with the capacity to house over 70 sows, with 160 expected farrowings per year and over 2,000 piglets. Moreover our state-of-the-art laboratory which capabilities are detailed further into this text, reflecting our commitment to pig studies. The Faculty of Agriculture Novi Sad, Department of Animal Science does not have the capacity to produce its own feed, but there is certainly the possibility of working with local mills. Located 20 kilometers from our main faculty headquarters in Temerin at Industrijska zona bb, our farm serves as a focal point for many of our endeavors. As part of our commitment to advancing agricultural practices and standards, we maintain a significant database on the production and reproductive characteristics of pigs. This information is updated daily, ensuring its relevance and utility in real-world applications. In terms of laboratory capabilities, we are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for quality control of both animal feed and animal products. Our milk testing laboratory is a testament to our holistic approach to livestock management. Beyond this, our commitment to meat quality is underscored by our possession of advanced equipment such as devices for meat color measurement, ph/temp meters, and specialized equipment for measuring the fat and muscle thickness on both live animals, namely two Krautkramer and two Piglog, as well as on carcasses, namely three Optigrade systems. Each year, we engage in testing more than 35,000 gilts, utilizing our expertise in measuring fat and muscle thickness. This is carried out both in the field and on the slaughter line. It's worth noting that we have two Krautkramer and two Piglog devices designated for live animal measurements, and three Optigrade devices set aside for the slaughter line. Furthermore, we are keenly aware of the importance of collaboration in the field of agriculture. As such, we have established strong cooperation ties with industries, farms, and slaughterhouses. Together, we have successfully embarked on and completed numerous projects of national significance. Our labs, mentioned previously, further add to the comprehensive suite of services we offer to our collaborators and partners.
