The pigs’ section of AnimBio has the facilities to carry out feeding trials up to 80 animals and digestibility studies for 8 to 15 animals at a time. The trials can be extended to cover animal health and meat quality. Feeding/digestibility trials comprise proximate analysis of the feedstuffs, daily caretaking, feeding animals, weighing animals, measuring feed intake, scoring fecal consistency, blood sampling, fecal, urine and/or digesta sampling, biochemical microbiota analysis, VFA analysis and general support (experimental design, data analysis and interpretation). Besides, parameters specific to immuno-nutrition, mycotoxins, meat quality, oxidative stability research can be determined: inflammatory immune markers (cytokines, immunoglobulins), antioxidant capacity / response, protein & gene expression of immune markers, proximate & fine chemical analysis of meat (fatty acids profile, minerals, lipid &protein degradation metabolites, etc.). While we work on feeds (assessing their nutritive value, their effects, etc.) Our feed mill is used for internal purposes producing about 2500 tonnes of feed per year. Hence feed mill production is indicated as 0 tonnes / year reflecting that compound feed tecnologies is not offered as a R&D service.
