Performance Trials

In our pig performance testing station (MLP), we have roughly 4'000 animals that are admitted for the fattening period every year. Most of the animals are full sibs of breeding candidates, but also offspring of selected boars. There is also the boar rearing station at the MLP. Animals are reared in groups from 10 to 12 with ad libitum access to feeding stations. Beside the routine performance test, MLP offers the possibilities for feeding experiments, as well as for conducting behavioural analyses. The current routine observations include: - daily weight gain (from 35 - 110 kg) - feed consumption - feed conversion - carcass composition (lean meat content and loin muscle thickness) - meat and fat quality traits measured at the abattoir and in our Meat Lab (see Meat Lab facility). We do not have our own mill however we work together with local mills so we can run feed trial, using novel feed technologies... We are an open-minded company, that supports innovative ideas and is eager to learn about novel methods and applications.
