Additional information
- Stable information The swine experimental farm as two facilities, one housing the sows and the other housing the weaning and growing-finishing pigs. In the sow facility there is room for - 30 (5 x 6) individual housed lactating sows, all fed individually several times per day. - Individual housing for the sows ready for insemination - Group housing for the gestating sows In the second facility there are 3 identical piglet compartments and 6 identical growing – finishing compartments. Every compartment is used for housing 120 pigs (0,36 m² for piglets and 0,88 m² for pigs). Every compartment has following specifications: - 12 pens, equipped with complete slatted floor - Feeding at pen level with an automatic feed weighing system to perform feed research - Both pellets and meal can be fed - Animals are weighed individually based on electronic identification (UHF) - Water supplements can be given at compartment level. Also water intake can be registered at compartment level. The stable is flexible so infrastructural adaptations are possible. Pigs are registered individually which also means that individual carcass characteristics are available. Also all individual pig data is registered (lineage, sex, medication use, …).
