Physiological Studies

SPECIPIG, is a pioneer Biomedical Research Centre (CRO) focused on the pig as a preclinical model (find presentation enclosed). We breed our own SPECIPIG miniature pig that is supplied to other research centres or included in-vivo preclinical pig studies run in our facilities. Our projects can either include our miniature breed or external sources of pigs, such as other miniature pigs or conventional commercial pigs. The range of preclinical studies we are experts in include the testing of: - Medical device, tissue regeneration, stem cells and new materials development: Where we test prototypes, establish efficacy, biocompatibility, local and systemic tolerance, improve product knowledge and support product development. ISO 10993. - Pharma preclinical development: We run proof of concept, efficacy, toxicology, pharmacokinetic and tolerance studies. - Disease models: We develop specific disease models from scratch or through translation from other animal species. Such as skin models, macular degeneration, sepsis, swallowing test, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) in preterm piglets, vascular thrombus, myocardial infarct. - Special units: Dermatology, ophthalmology, cardiology, kidney transplant, dental surgery and preterm and neonate ICU care unit. Studies are run in 2 fully equipped surgery rooms and housing facilities with capabilities to run 1 day to more than 2-year studies. SPECIPIG is GLP certified, has executed projects submitted to the FDA and follows CE regulations regarding animal research, health and welfare. Our mission is to find a solution adapted to the project needs and to give support all along the study execution taking care of all the project from the study authorization to the final report.
